Both the Entrance vestibule Quarry tiles and the front door steps at this 100 year old home in Troon were covered is layers of paint which had been worn in areas where you could see the 6 different coats of old paint. This job was a great one to show what exactly can be achieved by myself.

To start with the surfaces needed to be stripped of the layers of paint before the clean and seal could take place on the Quarry tiles. It was estimated that these tiles were over 60 years old. I used paint and varnish stripper and covered this solution with a polythene sheet to stop it drying out and allow the stripper to work away. It took three coatings of the stripper on the Quarry tiles to get back to the tile and 5 coatings on the front steps.

Once the Quarry tiles were clear of paint I cleaned with Tile Doctors Qxy-Gel solution to ensure they were deep cleaned. From there the tiles were rinsed with clean water and then Tile Doctors Acid gel solution was used to give a second clean and also treat the tiles for efflorescence. They were left to dry until the next day before we sealed them with a colour enhancing matt sealer.

The outside steps were cleaned from paint and scrubbed with Pro-Clean to ensure they were thoroughly cleaned and all remnants of paint were removed. Many people give up when removing paint from floor coverings but it really is just using the proper materials and not getting frustrated as it doesn’t work immediately! Remember the paints been on in layers for so long it will be difficult to remove. This pictures attached show before and afters. Note the front steps are just starting to dry but the Quarry tiles are finished and sealed.
