A homeowner in Bearsden, Glasgow recently contacted me to refresh their shower cubicle in the bathroom. The grout between the ceramic wall tiles had become badly stained, and the silicone sealant around the shower was mouldy and worn. Instead of re-grouting, I used a white epoxy grout colourant. This is a cost-effective and long-lasting solution that restores the grout colour while sealing it against future stains and moisture. Any small repair areas were sorted and recoloured also.
Before applying the epoxy colourant, the grout joints were treated with a pre-treatment solution to ensure proper bonding. The area was then thoroughly rinsed and left to dry.
Removing and Replacing Shower Silicone Sealant
All old silicone sealant was carefully removed from the shower tray edges and corner joints. This step is essential to achieve a clean, professional finish. Once the area was fully cleaned, fresh white mould-resistant silicone sealant was applied. This type of silicone is designed for bathrooms and wet areas, helping prevent future mould growth.
Epoxy Grout Recolouring
Once the grout was dry, the epoxy grout colourant was applied using a small detailing brush. Any excess product was wiped off the tiles to leave neat, uniform grout lines. Only one bottle of colourant was needed to complete the shower cubicle.
The Final Result
The shower cubicle was transformed, with bright, clean grout lines and fresh silicone sealant. cubicle looked clean, modern, and hygienic again. The epoxy grout colourant also provides long-term protection, making the grout easier to clean and maintain.
