Due to scheduling conflicts, I was unable to visit the North Berwick property before the customer’s available cleaning and resealing dates. As the customer could only be present on certain dates, I requested detailed photos and measurements of the kitchen. This allowed me to assess the tiles and provide a quote for renovating the floor.

The proposed two-day renovation would involve removing the old sealer, deep cleaning the slate, and then resealing the tiles with a matte finish. The customer accepted the quote, and we arranged dates to complete the work.

I began by applying a strong dilution of Tile Doctor Remove and Go, a coatings remover and cleaner safe for all stone and tile. Using a 200-grit milling pad on a rotary floor buffer, I worked the solution into the stone to strip off the remaining sealer and pull out the dirt. I also used a grout cleaning brush on the grout lines to ensure thorough cleaning. After rinsing and vacuuming the floor, I treated it with an acid wash using Tile Doctor Grout Clean-up to remove grout smears, efflorescence, and neutralize the pH.

The next day, I checked the moisture level of the tiles with a damp meter before applying the Tile Doctor Colour Grow sealer. The customer had requested a matte finish that would enhance the natural color of the slate. I applied two coats, removing any excess sealer after each application. A water test confirmed the sealer had been effective.

The customer was delighted with the final appearance, as the true color of the slate tiles was now clearly visible.
